My .02 worth...

Shimano MTB and Road shoes generally fit the same. I wear 48s in both. I also have a kind-of wide foot and find the Shimano and Specialilzed shoes fit me best. As far as price, Mike's Bikes had a great deal on Shimano R132s about a month ago. They're usually about $180 and they had them for slightly less than $120. I was lucky in that my LBS would match the price
