I've had to replace the battery in my Polar S725 (purchased almost 6 years ago) chest strap (not sure of model) once, though admittedly I don't use the chest strap much any more. Seems the problem that you are having is caused by buying a strap with a non-replaceable battery and not a problem with Polar's quality.
