Aaron,

Sounds you were a bit unlucky with your endevour in the beginning. The bb is a factory installed unit, that hadn't seen use for almost 20yrs, since new. Hence poor rotation and in need of a service. That you encountered broken threads does surprise me, as 1) new, 2) steel. Binder bolt was introduced from ca 1983 onwards and works better than the regular, but if you are in need for one, are maybe hard to come by with Miyata already having left US in 1995. I already heard from you about that screw. Glad you got it out.

However, the result is there and is there to be seen and enjoyed. It is a very unconventional build. Typical US style randonneur, with the French influences. That scene is very interesting and you do not have it here - Yet!

You haven't considered the original dynamo setup with roller under the rear tire and operation on back seattube?
