Here's the thing: I get that you want to protect her from harm, and you may think you're responsible for everything (being the man and all), but there's a good chance she's tougher than you are (I know I couldn't handle childbirth as well as my wife did). Show her the same respect you'd give any of your riding buddies and talk about the accident openly.
