Thought I'd update this thread for the sake of posterity and anyone asking the same question: Trek really came through on this one - they sent a Fisher Cronus Ultimate (i.e., a black Cronus) frameset. The guys at the shop seemed pretty surprised by this rather significant upgrade. They figured it must have been the only comparable (in geometry, at least) frameset that Trek had in stock and rather than make me wait for an Ion or stiff me with a lower-end bike, they sent this instead. I've not actually gotten my hands on the bike (shop is waiting for a headset/bearing set), but so far I'm a happy customer.
