Not saying it doesn't hit very hard, just commenting how our emotions over-rule our brains.
Again, the evidence of death from head injuries to cyclists wearing helmets is overwhelming. Bike helmets are made for a simple fall to the ground, not for impacts to motor vehicles. Even though we know this, emotion takes control and riddle our brain with doubt.
