In college I had a "nice" bike as well as the other one I mentioned - I actually hung it against the wall over my bed just so it wouldn't be left outside. Worked pretty well except the tire got the curtain dirty. Never got in my way either (and let's just say that I wasn't single ;-)).

If you aren't dealing with an "OMG that doesn't **belong** there", interior decorator woman, the flatness of a bike means you can often find places to hang it where it's not in the way. A road bike that stays relatively clean, at least.
