I'm happy to hear my thread called "phenomenal," though I fear it might be for all the wrong reasons. Let me make clear that I am not intending a parody thread by any means. I'm as sincere about this as they come.

I did not mean to imply that weak water bottle cages cause crashes. What I meant is that weak (lightweight) water bottle cages respond poorly to crashes (as do weak saddle rails, weak handlebars, weak shifters, weak pedals, etc.). Replacement costs are higher on a crashed lightweight bike than on a crashed 20 pounder (whose parts are cheaper to replace and less likely to break in the first place).
