A lot of people think they need to strangle their feet. If I even slightly overtighten my shoes, I will know within 5 minutes. Loosen your shoes to the point where they are secure on your feet, no tighter. This will take a bit of experimenting to find the right point that keeps the shoes secure, does not cause chafing, or loss of power or balance.
Over-tightening my shoes was the cause of a couple of issues I had (one being my left foot would fall asleep). I loosened them up and have had no issues since.
