I ride in at my usual pace and lately, for some reason, seem to be attracting my fair share of Silly Commuting Racers on the bike path. I think I'm such an unlikely target on my big old black beater hybrid bike with milk crate. I'm not dressed particularly "racey" in my rolled up dress pants and tee shirt but somehow I'm ending up with people on my wheel as I roll down the bike path. It feels like every third person I pass takes it as a personal affront to their manhood.
I had no idea so many people even understood the concept of drafting never mind actually doing it!- and without announcing their presence and most annoying- never offering to take a turn at the front. (Not like I want them to either.)
But it's a bike path. It's got runners and geese and baby carriages and roller skaters. I don't want no wheel suckers on my butt when I ride to work.
Other than that it was a lovely ride both into work and back and I suppose I should be glad some people didn't have to fight the same blustery headwind I did because some big guy on a beater was shielding them.
