Waterford Question

I was researching Waterford bikes, specifically mid 90's 2200s, and I saw at least three instances where very positive reviews were accompanied by a statement indicating a need to protect the bike from the elements, even to the point of being careful about having the bike in an area of high humidity. No explanations were offered. Other than the fact that it is a steel frame, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what's up with this? I have my eye on a couple very nice used ones but I live in Virginia and high humidity comes with the territory here. Is there something about Waterford's frame construction that makes it more susceptible to rust, etc.? And if I go look at a bike, I want to know what I should be on the lookout for, where should I be looking. Thanks for any info!
