Style is what you make it. *You* can make a hybrid stellarly stylish with how you trick it and yourself out. Fit, fit, fit. Of course, there's a real danger. If you're riding a bike that fits, you may want to stay on it longer and ride more.
I've got a 7500FX with 25cm tyres that gets me as far and as fast as I want to go (RAIN ride, double metrics)... tho' it's not laden with carrying capacity. For that I rely on my Giant Nutra with Xtracycle. When I got the Trek, I told my LBS guy that I wanted something lighter and faster that didn't run out of gears on the flats and that I'd try a road bike... but I didn't need to.
