Nope, it's actually, "about time"

I'll be 55 in Aug., I got back into riding as we couldn't afford a car anymore so we got rid of it. I too bought a "Wal-Mart" MTB and the cheapest "kiddy pull along trailer" and started riding again in Sept. 08. The Mrs. and I now own Jamis MTB's that we "converted" to be road/touring machines and really enjoy the freedom away from "car payments and Insurance". So no, it's not to late to start, just "take it easy", give yourself goals of short rides (start with a couple of miles every day you can ride), then work your way up to 5, 10, 15, 20, then it's even better from there! I'd recommend one of the the "Fitness Hybrids" as the comfort bikes are great BUT, you will surely "out grow" it quickly and the "fitness hybrid" will last you and do many different kinds of riding. Most of all ENJOY!!

BTW, DON'T buy a Wal-Mart or sporting good store bike, do yourself a HUGE favor and find a good local
Bicycle Shop, get them to "FIT" the bike to YOU and you will "thank yourself" everytime you get on it and RIDE. jmho, ymmv.
