I'm quite new to road biking and I'm really loving. I recently purchased an older Trek 370 road bike and the Shifters are located on the down tube. (which I hear is common among older bikes).

I'd like to buy some new shifters that are combined with the brake handles, Brake/shifter combos. I'm having a hard time finding the right ones. My bike is a 2x7 speed. I can't seem to located some 14 speed shifters. Can I use shifters that are for a different speed on my bike? 9 speed, or 21' speed?


The new shifters don't need to be the best on the market, Affordable but quality.
