Cane Creek clamp
I've just bought a 2008 Decathlon B'Twin Sport 3, French. It has carbon forks with alloy steerer and a Cane Creek headset. I need to get another stem, short and with a drop of 2 or 3 inches. As a temporary measure I put the spacers above the stem, but my query is to do with the headset. I looked at sheldon's site, Zinn's book etc., but I can't see the same headset. Basically it's a Cane Creek (checked their site also), with a clamp directly above, 3 spacers above that, stem above then top cap. When I came to remove the stem and spacers it looks as though the clamp keeps the bearings set. I assume I should loosen the clamp, fit stem and spacers loosely, then set the top cap/star nut to adjust the bearings. Then tighten clamp and lastly stem.
Does this sound right? I've not seen any description of a headset with a clamp above, so I've been reluctant to touch it until I checked with you guys (Bank Holiday today, shops shut).
