Unfortunately, people are often stupid beyond belief. The last time I went camping in the Adirondacks, I shared a lean-to with a couple from NYC. The next morning they were complaining they had no food. It turns out that they had put it on top of the lean-to, "Because then nothing could get it".
I was camping with a bunch of Bike Forums posters who left food out on the picnic tables overnight. They were lucky nothing got it.
