The bridge is there for a reason, regardless of brake drilling or not, as ichitz said. And besides, you won't be looking at the bridge while riding, right? So don't let it bother you.

I can't make weight comparisons, because I've never ridden or held an SST in my hand. But, the pake is indeed heavy. Definitely heavier than my old Scrambler.
