Actually, it appears that dogs aren't driving drunk ( or sober! ) these days; it's just the people trying to rescue them.
A lot of people in here are Orwell fans. I notice people getting more upset about how an attack is
described, than that the attack took place at all. I don't think journalists, editors, and police are conspiring to take our rights away using clever language. ( Or maybe they've added dogs to the hit list? ) I even think "The cyclist wasn't wearing a helmet" is probably more to do with filling column space than painting us as victims in need of some blame. I also think that many journalistic style guidelines result in bad writing in the news ... here's a case in point.
In other news, I don't know how a person could be
that drunk by 10 am?
And: wouldn't it be nice if
everybody who endangered other peoples' lives wound up confessing accidentally? Walking into a police station asking for directions with flammable breath was about as smart as the Florida man who stabbed two cyclists apparently telling police he and his knife "went to town" on them. (
If IQ is defined so that 100 is average ... the rest of the world has some making up to do for these folks! )
