Having started biking in the early 80's with almost all items already brazed on to the frames, I find it hard to accept anything that straps on to my frames at all (mostly form an aesthetic standpoint, but I figure these mounting straps and bands eventually hurts the bike's finish), so I understand the resistance I am seeing from some here on strapped on bottle holders.
Heck, even the zip ties used on bike computer sensors bother me!
Although I would still prefer NOT to drill my frames for inserts than use straps and zip ties to mount things on if I had to make the choice. That's just something too irreversable and could be risky if you don't know what you are doing.
