Broken Roller Cam Brake Peugeot Orient Express

I have a 1986 Peugeot Orient Express. The rear brake is a rollercam brake mounted on the chainstay.

It seems that an internal spring on one side of the brake has broken. I've not disassembled it just yet, so I'm not 100% sure, but it feels that way when I have taken the wedge from between the cams. One side is under fairly strong spring tension, and the other is not.

I know these brakes can be found on eBay, but I'm wondering if it would be smarter to install something more modern. One old thread here says that the bosses will accommodate a U-brake.

I know nothing about U-brakes; would anyone suggest a particular brand and/or model? Thanks in advance.
