Heck, cars are quite courteous around here and I consider a reflective vest to be my best friend when out riding, day or night. I really believe that it helps significantly.
i'm not debating whether they're courteous or not, i'm sharing what i've experienced: stop signs & red lights mean slow down, and take a look if there's anyone coming.
