I have a Big Buzz and I am very happy with it. The flat bar with the bar ends is just fine for commuting in the city. If you live in a wet climate, the disc brakes are a huge plus. Even if it isn't rainy where you live, they have advantages: they don't wear out the rims, they still work well when the wheel starts to get slightly out of true, they're easy to keep adjusted. The stock wheels are very stout - the WTB Dual Duty 32H rims are suitable for 29" MTBs. The cyclocross double crank makes it easier to keep the front derailleur adjusted. You still have plenty of gear range with the MTB cassette. The stock tires are excellent - I have over 2000 flat-free miles on mine. There is plenty of room in the frame and fork to use wider tires if you so desire.

The only thing I didn't like about my Big Buzz was the platform pedals. I also think the bright pea-green color of the new (2005) models is ghastly.
