I guess people that work from home get a pass, because they don't have to slave away in rush hour like the rest of us suckers, so living 45 miles away isn't as big of a deal.
I occasionally have to brave rush hour traffic. Like on Monday I'm doing that. 10AM meeting in midtown. Taking the motorcycle, I'll roll out of here @ 7:45AM. But most of my trips to the city are for client meetings later in the day or to race my bike at 6:30AM on a Saturday or Sunday morning. I can make Central Park in about an hour for those Manhattan races.
Actually it's rather amazing to me that a place as bucolic as Chester isn't farther away from the largest city in North America. I was just thinking today how much I enjoy living here. It's very beautiful, but it's close enough that I have contact with the city racing and cycling scene and of course, NYC itself. I do have half a dozen neighbors who work in NY City, two are executives, three are union construction guys (who may earn more $ than the executives).
