Bikes: Scattante FR-330

I have given this MUCH thought over the last couple of days! I have been talking to some people and reading about bike angles. As much as I want to keep this bike and soup it up, I just don't feel comfortable with the change in head angle that would occur with a significantly shorter fork. I am leaning towards buying a new bike. I was thinking of getting an entry level inexpensive bike to commute on. These are two I'm considering:

I'm leaning more towards the Scattante. I had the LBS weigh a 54cm Scat and it was 21.6 lbs. Lighter than I will ever get my bike down to and it should serve all the purpose I need in a bike right now I think.

Any thoughts?
