had to share with the world! just called my LBS and ordered a new '09 Jamis Sputnik. now i just have to wait for it to arrive - should be here by Friday. thanks to dookie for answering all my questions. just going to get it and start riding, then i'll make upgrades as needed. i definitely want to check out the bars as i may swap those our first thing - judging from the stock picks they may be a bit shallow, but we'll see. and i'm going to get some brake levers for the drops. i've been looking at the Tektro 200a and the Cane Creek SCR-5. not looking to spend a ton there. would love some Campy carbon levers, but... i already have some look keo pedals, so that's done. i'm planning on doing as much road riding as possible with it. just had to share. woohoo! thanks for all the help in my search.
