Eventually if one rides enough miles, one will crash. On some of these crashes your head will be impacted.
On the one occasion in which I found myself flying through the air with my body rotating, I landed on my back. My wife had a similar experience and landed on her head, destroying her helmet and escaping serious injury. There are a number of ways to lower the odds of a crash. There is no way to eliminate the possibility any more than we can eliminate the possibility of being struck be another motor vehicle when driving.
I also think that those of us who promote cycling have an obligation to set an example for others, even if we don't value our own health.
