A few years ago I and my cycling buddy were the only cyclists in our office. Over the years we've talked several more into it. None of them could be called serious cyclists, but some of them now commute by bike. And now, once a year, we organise a "works outing" - a ride along a recognised cycling route like this one (our first):

140 miles, some serious climbing, and a very mixed ability group, so we took three days to ensure nobody was too intimidated. And my buddy and I had to push one or two of them up a couple of the hills. But everyone made it, they had a great time, and now there is about a dozen or so of us doing something similar every year. Fun, and I know what the OP means about the Pied Piper stuff.
