Last year I bought my first bike with drop bars and would never go back. I shift my hands constantly, and the result is a great deal more comfort. Even on the top, there are three hand positions (flats, shoulders and hoods), and as I've had them longs, I find myself riding in the drops more often as well.

Just for hand positions, there are other alternatives, but few bikes come stock with anything else.

If it doesn't come with, you might consder adding interrupter brakes. It's a second set of brake levers that install in the flat part of the bar, in the middle of the same brake line. They're wonderful to have for riding on the flat part of the bar.
