If you are actually going touring I would recommend using mountain bike derailleurs. They will index with road shifters. They are more easily available if you break one in Timbuktu Iowa and the are designed to work with smaller sprockets. My touring bike which was built in the 1990s has Deore XT derailleurs and has been bomb proof. Roger
