Told him that that didn't work for my parents when I was a kid so it certainly isn't going to work for me.
OT: I had a manager scream, "BECAUSE I SAID SO" at me and a coworker during a teleconference years ago and used that same line on him--"that didn't work when my parents tried it and I was 8. I'm 38 and you're not my mother. It's not going to work now either."

I hope this works out for you. In my experience, unfortunately, management feels they have to back their employee's play regardless of how wrong it is. See the US vs Slovenia FIFA World Cup game and the perfect-game-that-wasn't in major league baseball for two recent shining examples.
