properly finishing the ends of cable housing is probably the number one most important and commonly overlooked part of home bicycle maintenance. you don't want to have a sheared housing end work its way through your brake cable, because with brake cables you can easily have a sudden, catastrophic failure. the cable pops, it doesn't grind like derailleur cable.

some housing and cable is teflon coated or permeated and that stuff you don't have to grease. just clean your bike so you minimize the amount of dirt and grime that works its way into the housing.
Well, since I didn't have the right tools, I took the housing and cable to my LBS to get cut for free, I noticed this blue tube inside the housing so I believe that's what prevents the cable from rust. Though I think the guy just cut the cable and housing, but didn't file it, maybe he did, I don't know. When I got back, I took out the metal end cap on the other side and put it on the end of my cut housing, put the cable and installed the line. Since the bottom part near the wheel is fairly exposed I just put some marine grease on to it for water resistance. My bike is now complete. Ill post up pictures later tonight lol, maybe you guys can see if anything is funky.
