Agreed. Whenever non-cycling folks told me I was nuts for riding my bike in the road, I always told them that if I got into a wreck, it would most likely be at lower speeds and might put me in the hospital, but won't kill me. The collision last week proved my point. My theory is: When drivers are going faster they are more likely to be paying closer attention to the road which reduces the probability of an accident.
