That looks just like every lcd display I've seen that has had hard pressure on it or medium pressure for an extended period of time. I have a feeling you must have done something to it without knowing about it. Don't think Garmin warranty is going to help you out here.
I'd at least send it off. They're first rate, and if it's questionable they'll usually replace it.
