Your lungs and heart should respond pretty well... but your ankles, achilles, and general lower leg area may not be quite as happy! As mentioned in the first post... running puts much more stress on the joints which is fine provided you are used to it. I'd make the runs fairly short at an easy pace at least the first couple days and make sure nothing flares up! If you feel good after that, then up the pace or duration a little bit.
