Inline skating is great also for a change of pace.
Makes me wonder on why people run. It's hard on the knees especially and you can't cruise when you get tired. Doesn't seem very enjoyable to me!
It is a bit logistically easier to run. You go on a trip, you simply strap on your shoes and out the door you go, etc., etc. No chains to clean, no expensive equipment to buy, no road rash, no flats.
Having said that I competed for years in track and road racing, and hated the training, but I loved winning competitions. Conversely, with cycling, I love every pedal stroke.
