Back at the Coral Ridge bike show in March, I had the good fortune of stumbling upon an NOS set of Tange bottom bracket cups from the '80s. That's lucky enough as it is, but they were
Swiss thread, no less.
Fast forward to June, and I'm sifting through the bins at the LBS. What should I find but another set of NOS Tange cups - with
French threading.
What are the odds? I mean, it's already a bit difficult to find a set of NOS French cups in the first place, and finding NOS Swiss cups
just doesn't happen. But to find both of a single model type (Tange JL-401), in a row?
Heck, I went looking for Italian cups!
FYI - an important tip to anyone who finds these loose - the fixed Swiss and French cups do not differ in their markings - they're both "35xP1" - the differing thread direction is not marked.
Just put them up on Velobase:
