Bikes: Real Steel. Really. Ti is cool, too !

I remember when jogging became actually popular back in the 70's the then-track coach at UCLA came out with a lot of information and recommendations AGAINST jogging anwhere except on grass or surfaces witha little give to absorb the shock, pointing out the great increase in injuries compared to running on grass etc.

Case in point: my 43 year old sister. Natural athlete. 90 pounds soaking wet. Ran on track team in HS. Has been doing bike riding with me for last few years. We can average about 17-18mph on a good day on a 50 mile ride if we try - can easily do a leisurly 14mph. She decided to do some more running this year and do some running races (lengths steadily increasing up to a 1/2 marathon). She has always done 1-2 mile runs every day for last 10 years weather permitting and no cycling that day. This year with training for running races, she severely injured calf muscles, knee, and groin muscles so that she has not been able to run or ride the last 4 weeks. Only difference was increased miles running on hard surfaces - just what UCLA track coached warned about some 30+ years ago.
