Hi, enjoyed reading the thread. I live over in London, UK, and have recently bought a proteus road bike of ebay on the back of reading this thread. It rides like a dream and has all original parts. Original dura ace brakes and levers; suntour cyclone frontrear mechs, sunshine pro-am hubs with rigida rime, campag headset etc. I bought the bike for the frame as was just going to swap components from my old bike, though seems a shame when it rides just fine. Frame is beautiful, touring geometry so very comfortable, lugwork is cutaway and a thing of beauty. This is one UK proteus owner who is enjoying a piece of american cycle history. If anyone knows the model or any other info on the bike I would love to know. It dates back to roughly 1976 going of the groupset, though frame may well be older but guessing it was put together at the same build time.
