Just carry a spare tube, a pump and 2 tyre levers. And your good to go. I would not recommend patching a tyre if you can just replace it on to go, its a lot less of a hassle. You can always patch the tyre when you get home.

You could choose to go without, but then what do you do when you get a flat tyre?
