For the last time, NO! That is simply NOT true. You can eat a 10,000 calorie steak and not gain anything. If that is all you eat, you body will use what protein it needs and you will crap out the rest. If you have a piece of cake with that steak, the insulin spike from the sugar in the cake will trigger your body to start storing excess energy and you will gain weight. That is the science, plain and simple. Please, stop with the all calories are equal bit. Not all extra calories are stored as fat. Period.
