Anyway, I'm also sick of the mentality that anyone who is over weight has a poor diet and isn't getting enough exercise. I don't need to hear the "get off your ass and quit eating junk food" routine. You people forget this is a cycling forum, not a video game forum. I myself have no sympathy for most fat people who are lazy and have no one to blame but their own gluttony. There are those people who are more active than most, yet heavier than most. I find myself in that category for whatever biological reason. A look at my family history indicates genetics, slow metabolism, etc. I am by far the most physically active and maintain the best diet of any of my friends, family, or co-workers. But, I am not by far the thinnest.
Now back to the alcohol thing: I agree that alcohol is not good for you. But I am having a hard time with the idea that some beer on Friday night wipes out all the riding I did that week and will do in the week to come. CPFitness, why 3 weeks? Is that to say that all the riding I do for 3 weeks around some beer is nor naught?
I say 3 weeks because it's difficult to tangibly see weight loss results in shorter time than that due to fluctuations from water weight. Plus it will also give your bodies systems some time to fully adapt and get cleaned out from the last bit of alcohol you consumed. Lets say you only drink alcohol on friday night and you have a 6 pack. You may inhibit your bodies ability to burn stored fat for the next 36-48 hours plus those six beers are adding 900 calories that you dont need. in 3 weeks you'll save 2700 calories which is 3/4 of a pound, plus you'll be allowing your body to be the fat burning machine it needs to be.
One last thing, you may very well eat healthy foods. You could still be overeating those healthy foods. I know I do that all the time. The sense of entitlement from doing a 50 mile ride makes me think I can swill a 6 pack and eat as much healthy prepared homecooked food but it's just not the case. To truly make a dent in the weight loss game, you have to really be dot your i's and cross your t's. sometimes it's also as simple as just poor timing of meals as well. There are a number of factors. If you were telling me that you had lost a bunch of weight, were down to 15% bodyfat and trying to get those last 5 lbs off, I would understand your frustration. But if your telling me you have 50+ lbs to lose and it's not coming off, I'd really need to see a DETAILED breakdown of all your food consumption and exercise habits.
