A motorcycle o-ring chain has said o-rings installed to keep the lube in. We do not have that luxury. However when using a proper chain degreaser, kerosene, it penetrates deep into the links to lossen the crud and chunky lube. It will remove lube from the dark recesses of your chain.
To successfully reapply lube to these areas after any decent cleaning, you need to warm the chain up and warm up the THIN lube you are using. Use a hot plate or the stove when the missus isn't looking. It just needs to be hot to the touch (both the lube AND the chain). Mix the two and let cool. Serves 6.
