your wrong, there is something called basal metabolic rate. It's the amount of calories the body needs to do involuntary things like make the heart beat, respiration, and create blood cells. so a 150 lb woman probably needs closer to 1400 calories just to stay alive and breathing! Anytime you cut below your body's BMR you will put it into survival mode. The first couple of weeks you will body will adapt fine but after more than 2-3 weeks it goes into survival mode and begins to slow everything down.

so this sedentary woman who very well may only need about 1800 calories a day to maintain her weight will have to either be satisfied with losing less than a pound per week or else risk throwing her body out of wack.
