The reason I originally decided to ride in the right direction was because I read a newspaper column about it. Information can change the behavior of rational people. If you have a chance to talk to the guy, mention it, but if you want him to listen, don't sound like you're attacking him or calling him an idiot. It seems safer to ride the wrong way because you can see what's going on. That doesn't make him an idiot. The biggest argument against riding the wrong way is that people won't look for you when they pull out of a driveway or make a turn. This is the kind of information that helps people make safer decisions, and that many people don't know about.
Even if he gets hit and it's his own fault, the consequences are bigger than that: The person who hit him will never forgive himself, and unsafe cyclists make us all look bad.
