Really? We had a bike rodeo day where all the kids got to bring their bikes in for the day (I lived in a rural area where 90% of the kids came by bus so this was a special event). They set up a graduated beam on the grass that you were to ride along to demonstrate your ability to ride in a straight line and I managed to complete the entire strip. I was so proud. Nobody wore helmets then. I don't think I even knew there was such a thing. Funny that my parents insisted I wear a helmet while skateboarding but never even suggested a helmet on my bike. I don't think I even owned a helmet until I was in my mid 20's
