A fairly knowledgeable friend - and drillium customer - of mine told me that Mondia made a cross-specific frame in this era. However, I was also informed when I bought the frame that the canti bosses were added later. Certainly the other 'mountain bike' style cable stops seen in the 'before' pics were added later. I think this was a normal touring frame and not a cross frame from the start. There was a load of pitting on the frame when I saw it stripped. In fact, 'Mondia' could be plainly made out in pitting on the seat tube! Apparently that area was chromed and when the frame went to seed it began pitting aroud the decal edges; strange!
We still don't have an explanation for the brake cable housing routing down the top of the top tube. The Specials of the the day had it under the top tube, at 4:30-5 as noted above, with stops for and aft.
Maybe the same guy who added the cantis changed the housing clips?
My mondia of the era also has chrome seat panel.
