I have a front rack on one of my bikes and love it. I tried the rack on a narrow-tire road bike and found it hard to control, but on my mountain bike with a 2.3 inch tire and snowcat rims, it handles just fine. Maybe the wider tires will make a difference as I said I test rode a green with wide tires and it handled a lot better, but that was the usual test ride figure 8's.
