Varying the frequency of a rear blinky.

http://www.soundoffrec.com/products/lights.aspx makes a product I used for many years on my first motorcycle, and the version I had lit up the turns signals with the brake light, and would pulse the lights when either brake was first applied. It was extremely effective in getting people to give me more room when braking (people usually weren't sure what the heck was gong on, but they knew they wanted to stay away). There are many rear blinkies that blink at a set rate, but none that I've seen that vary the pattern like the Priority Plus lights I used. Has anyone tried to vary the pattern on their own? How well id it work?
