Not surprising... the company - Nicolai - primarily does hardcore downhill rigs. One look at their site, and the fact that they have a road frame seems like an anomaly.

But, I dig the square tubing the most. As for how stiff it is... I imagine not unbearably so. If I remember correctly, the diameter of the cross-section would have a greater impact on stiffness than the shape of the cross-section (at least when you're talking about squares v. circles v. ellipses).
