And false. Running shoes are expensive as hell. $100ish per pair (unless you are like me and go mad on eBay). Shoes last 3-500 miles, so for a average pair of shoes for a competitive runner running 50/miles per week, maybe 2 months per pair of shoes. Thats $600/year in shoes. For an average runner, thats 25 miles per week, $300/year in shoes.
Its not cheap. Maybe compared to Golfing, but biking, after the initial costs of the bike are tires ($30ish each) and tubes ($3-5 each)
Forgetting clothes? Helmet? Race fees? Shoes? Pedals? I've spent more than $600 in a month alone on just clothes and a helmet.
Conti 4000's cost $60 a pop, btw.
Edit: Do people really pay $100+ dollars for a pair of running shoes? I ran XC all through high school on $30 dollar shoes that lasted me the entire season.
